April 2nd, 2012, 3:05 pmTo my mind, there are 3 things to introduce :
- A "design structure" module with lot of choice (2 columns, 3 columns, no sidebar, bottom sidebar, etc...).
- A drag'n'drop system to choose exactly where to display selected categories.
- ... And for sure, add more CSS class for more customizations !
The current templates are not very easy to understand and, for what I understand, they don't let users do exactly what they want with their design.

Design The Next Primetime

As you all know, I am not a designer but I have tried my best to provide a workable design for primetime. Aside from this site, I don't use primetime for anything else. What you have here are my ideas and views on things which may not work for you. My point here is, you guys are the primary users of primetime and I need to hear from you guys. We need an active community with members who are willing to share and contribute to this project. Even if you have no programming or design skills, you may have an idea or two that can really improve things.
From a design standpoint, this MOD suffers from a limitation, at least from a creativity standpoint, of the kinds of templates that are available since it is a modification of phpBB styles which were designed primarily for forum display. My goal is for primetime to move beyond just the portal look. I want something more creative.
A second short fall, is the documentation. Most users of this MOD don't know the limits of primetime and what they can truly accomplish with it. I intend to put in some work to correct this injustice.
A third limitation is a lack of some basic features required for a true content management system, namely an image/asset management solution and things like that.
So what can we do? Well, to begin with, I'd like to launch some type of competition to get the community involved. I'd like to see who can come up with the best wireframe design for what the next primetime should look like. I suggest using something like http://www.cacoo.com since it allows collaboration. I'll provide a forum link to post your designs so others can vote on them.
Please, let your voice be heard.

April 2nd, 2012, 9:31 pmBlitze, I really think an open topic over at the phpbb BETA forums ( for BETAs wip ) can spark more interest from phpbb community. I had never heard of PT until it got accepted into the MODdabase forum. And i remember thinking, it would of been great to throw in some feedback before it got accepted into moddatabase. On the BETA forums, It feels as though a lot of ideas are born and shared because the MOD projects are not 'finished' yet and so MOD authors welcome all types of input and criticism. I think that would be healthy for PT in the long run. Just to spark more interest and feed back.
I agree about the documentation being a bit vague. I think for new users it may be confusing or overwhelming. perhaps it's a good starting point.
Cacoo.com idea sounds great. I think I may give it a go. I personally don't like the portal look on any phpbb CMS. I use PT for more of it's category and author pages. Those are unique to me and separate PT from the rest of the portals/cms out there.
Great post =)

July 31st, 2012, 8:26 pmI would really like a crack at this if i might. Have not been around the phpbb stuff in a bit. I would love to be able to take a stab at a design if you would not mind it.
